About:
Though the gallery has a specialized interest in the art of Tibet we also exhibit museum quality Central Asian, Islamic, Nepalese and Indian material as well as a large selection of Chinese robes and textiles. Tibet was at the crossroads of Asia and over the centuries had contact with most cultures through trade and spiritual activities.
Architectural Digest published the following description of the gallery in December, 1999:
'Mokotoff established a gallery in New York called Asian Arts and started selling to museums (the Metropolitan Museum of Art bought a 13th-century embroidery made in the workshops of Kublai Khan). He specializes in Tibetan Thangkas, but he also has statues, masks and textiles, as well as an occasional Chinese-style lacquered trunk and screen. Samuel Botero says of Mokotoff, "He has unusual things, and he's trustworthy, but what helps in my field is that he has a great eye for the decorative."'
